Da Nang launched the tourist season in 2018 on April 27 at the Bien Dong Park in the city's Son Tra peninsula with a programme of more than 20 activities, aiming to lure and entertain visitors to the coastal city.

Prominent among the events will be a Kayak racing competition, a kite contest and pavilions introducing Da Nang tourism information, sea cuisines, tour services and performance of sea sports. Music performances will also be organised every night.

A painting contest themed sea and islands will be held for children, together with various other activities.

The number of tourists to the central coastal city of Da Nang reached more than 355,500 on holidays between April 28 and May 1, a year-on-year surge of 14.2 percent.

Of the total, there were over 101,600 foreigners and 253,900 domestic holiday-makers, up 20.2 percent and 12 percent respectively from the same time last year.

The majority of foreign visitors were from the Republic of Korea, Japan and China. They came to the city via direct flights.

CLIPPER RACE 2015 -2016 AWARD CEREMONY AND GALA DINNER AT FURAMA RESORT DANANG

Furama Resort Danang, the best beach culinary resort in Vietnam, welcomed over 430 crew members, city authorities, and guests at the Award Ceremony and Gala Dinner of the 7th leg of Clipper Race 2015 - 2016 - "Da Nang - New Discovery of Asia Race" at its International Convention Palace on February 22.

Derry-Londonderry-Doire yacht from North Ireland won the Clipper Race leg into Vietnam. The Garmin was the first runner-up while the third prize was given to Great Britain. Social Spirit Award was presented to Stormhoek.

At the event, Vice Chairman of the municipal People's Committee Dang Viet Dung expressed his delight to welcome the 12 Clipper Race teams to the city as a host port and a sponsor of the 10th edition of the race.

In addition to popularising Vietnamese culture and people, the race will help enhance the country's connectivity and interaction with foreign nations as well as open up new opportunities for trade cooperation and cultural activities, Dung underscored.

As the world's longest ocean race, the 40,000-nautical mile Clipper Race 2015-2016 is one of the most competitive and challenging sports activities in the world. It started in London on August 30, 2015 and takes 11 months to sail around the world, crossing South America, Australia, Asia and the US.

Since 1996, the Clipper Race sailors have visited 55 different stops all over the world, but February is the first time they have visited Vietnam and docked at Da Nang city. The race attracts 700 international amateur crew members.
