Mr. Hugh Borrowman, Australian Ambassador, visited Furama’s Dive Center and Lifeguards

Furama resort recently received a visit form the Australian ambassador to Vietnam Mr. Hugh Borrowman. Mr Borrowman came to see the work being done by Furama's Austraining Volunteer Stephanie McGuinness. Stephanie is a Lifesaving Development Officer from Surf Life Saving Australia and has been working with Furama's lifeguards to develop Da Nang Beach Surf Life Saving Club and improve beach safety in Da Nang and across Vietnam.  Beach safety is of the highest importance to Furama, the Resort's lifeguards are said to the best in Vietnam having over a decade of international standard lifeguard training behind them.

The Ambassador also paid a visit to Furama's Dive centre where Stephanie gave him a lesson in CPR. The child size training manikins were of particular interest to the Ambassador as they highlighted just how important knowledge of CPR is, especially when you are a parent. Stephanie also informed the Ambassador of the Nipper program she will be running with the assistance of the Furama lifeguards. The Nipper program is based on the Australian surf sports and surf education programs that are run by Surf Life Saving Australia in many beachside cities and towns. The program teaches surf safety and lifesaving skills such as swimming through waves and how to pick a safe place to swim.

Mr. Borrowman was impressed with the high skill level of the Furama lifeguards. They expressed the dangers to swimmers at My Khe beach such as rip currents and under tows. There was also a demonstration of a board rescue in rough conditions highlighting the importance of having highly skilled beach lifeguards on duty. The Ambassador was shocked to learn that the drowning rate in Vietnam is higher than 30 people a day and thanked the Lifeguards for their impressive demonstration.

Furama has been a constant supporter of Surf Life Saving Vietnam and the Da Nang Beach Surf Life Saving Club. Furama have graciously offered to host another Surf Life Saving Volunteer arriving in September. Their continued support is greatly appreciated by Austraining, Surf Life Saving Vietnam and Surf Life Saving Australia.
