The central coastal city of Danang has seen robust growth in the tourism sector, thanks to scores of festivals taking place between May and September.

Danang City recorded 1.6 million tourists over the past two months, surging by 26% year-on-year, said Tran Chi Cuong, deputy director of the Department of Tourism of Danang City. He attributed this to a series of festivals and activities, such as the Danang International Fireworks Festival and Danang-Summer Destination 2018 program.

VIETNAM PRESIDENT VISITS ADECC AND FURAMA FOR APEC 2017

On April 18, President Quang toured the Ariyana Danang Exhibition & Convention Centre (ADECC) and the International Convention Palace of Furama Resort Danang– the major locations for the 2017 Asia-Pacific Economic Co-operation (APEC) CEO Summit scheduled from November 8 to 10, expected to be attended by more than 1,000 CEOs from across the world.

Located to the South of Furama Villas Danang, the ADECC is managed and operated by Furama Resort Danang. The 3-storey construction occupies an area of 5,500 m2, with a total construction area of 12,000 m2. A grand ballroom can accommodate 2,500 people, suitable for all kinds of local and international events and exhibitions. ADECC is a part of Ariyana Danang Residential & International Tourism Complex, including Ariyana Beach Resort and Suites with over 1,000 rooms and suites. This project will be the Central Vietnam's largest convention and exhibition centre.

On this visit to Danang, President Trần Đại Quang also pressed a button to start a countdown to the 2017 APEC Summit in Đà Nẵng. Besides, he joined a working session with the central city on the preparation of logistics, accommodation, traffic infrastructure and the decoration of the city for the APEC Summit. Danang will host a heads of state summit and CEOs from 21 member nations during the week of November 5 to 11.

Established in November 1989, APEC comprises 21 economies, representing about 39 per cent of the world population, 57 per cent of total GDP and 47 per cent of world's trade. Việt Nam joined the forum in 1998. The country has hosted APEC 2006 and the sixth APEC Human Resources Development Ministerial Meeting in September 2014.

More than 15,000 delegates and 6,000 journalists are expected to take part in the event this year.

The city also selected the red-shanked douc langur (Pygathryx nemaeus) – a langur declared endangered by the International Union for the Conservation of Nature in 2013 – as Đà Nẵng's official mascot for the summit. The 2,500ha Sơn Trà Nature Reserve, 10km from the city's centre, is home to nearly 300 red-shanked douc langurs.
